Overhook guard
A closed guard where you wrap one of their arms deep under your armpit. The overhook limits their posture and sets up triangles, armbars and the omoplata.

Key steps
- Break their posture from closed guard as one of their arms reaches in.
- Wrap your arm over theirs and clamp it tight under your armpit.
- Lock the overhook by gripping their collar or the back of their neck.
- Angle your hips off to one side to open the triangle or the armbar.
Key details
- A shallow overhook lets them pull the arm out, so clamp above the elbow.
- The trapped arm can't post, which makes it hard for them to stand and open the guard.
