Key steps

  1. Break their posture from closed guard and pull their head down.
  2. Raise one leg high across their upper back, near their shoulder.
  3. Pin that leg in place by holding your shin with the arm on the same side.
  4. Keep their head controlled with your free hand while their posture stays broken.
  5. Move from that shape into the omoplata, triangle or gogoplata.

Key details

  • The guard needs open hips and flexible knees, so forcing the leg up strains your own joints.
  • If their posture comes back, the high leg slides down and the guard falls apart.
