Side control to north-south

Circle from side control past the top of their head into north-south while your chest stays pinned to theirs. It's a common path to the kimura and the north-south choke.

Key steps

  1. Keep your chest heavy on theirs and your hips low before you start to move.
  2. Shuffle around their head on the balls of your feet, a short step at a time.
  3. Turn your hips as you go so your chest stays centered over theirs.
  4. Settle in north-south, your chest on theirs and your head toward their hips.

Key details

  • If your chest comes off theirs mid-turn, they get the space to face you.
  • Stepping wide or hopping lets their hips swing around after you.
