Also called Side mount, Cross side

A pin where you lie across their chest from the side, clear of their legs. A crossface and a blocked hip keep their shoulders flat and stop them turning in.

Key steps

  1. Settle your chest across theirs, chest to chest, with your hips low and heavy.
  2. Turn their head away from you with a crossface, your shoulder pressing on their jaw.
  3. Block their near hip with your other arm so their knee can't come back in.
  4. Sprawl your legs back or tuck your knees tight to their side for base.
  5. Shift your weight as they move so your chest stays heavy on theirs.

Key details

  • The crossface stops the turn in; without it they face you and recover guard.
  • Rest your weight on their chest, not on your own knees.
  • Guard the near hip, since that's where their knee slides back in.
