Key steps
- Frame on their hip with your hand or elbow.
- Turn onto your side and hip escape away, sliding your knee inside their leg.
- Hook their leg with yours to get half guard.
- Hip escape to the other side and bring the second knee in to recover full guard.
Key details
- Keep your elbows in; once one drifts out from your side, they can attack the arm.
- Move your hips, not your frame; the frame only holds the space.
- When they sit low and heavy, a small bridge first gives your hips room to move.
