Key steps

  1. Hold their foot tight at your hip with both arms around the ankle.
  2. Put your outside foot on their hip so they can't step in on you.
  3. Hook your other leg behind their knee and squeeze your knees together.
  4. Lift and push with your legs to keep them hopping on their free foot.
  5. Sweep them as they fall, or turn toward the foot to set up a foot lock.

Key details

  • Keep their foot pinned at your hip; once it slides free, they can step out.
  • Active feet do the off-balancing, so keep pushing and lifting instead of just holding the leg.
