Loop choke

A Gi collar choke that loops around the neck when their head drops low. It shows up from guard, half guard, and the front headlock.

Key steps

  1. Take a cross-collar grip on the opposite side of their collar.
  2. Wait for their head to drop low, such as during a guard pass or a shot.
  3. Swing the gripping elbow up and across their head so the forearm drapes behind the neck.
  4. Pull the collar through to tighten the loop and finish.

Key details

  • Leave yourself enough slack in the grip to swing your elbow around their head.
  • Strike while they are bent over you; once they straighten up, the loop opens.
