Key steps
- Pull their sleeve or wrist to break their balance forward onto their toes.
- Pivot in front of them so your back meets their chest, knees bent to drop your hips under theirs.
- Wrap your free arm around their waist or lower back and pull them tight.
- Drive up through your legs and rotate your upper body so they tip over your hip.
- Don't release the sleeve; it guides them down onto their back beside you.
Key details
- Sink low and get your hips well across before lifting; entering tall leaves you trying to hoist dead weight.
- Breaking their balance forward before you turn in means you aren't lifting their full weight.
- Holding the sleeve to the end lets them break their fall and keeps you on your feet.
