Key steps

  1. Pull their sleeve or wrist to tip them forward, and grip over their shoulder or back.
  2. Pivot on your support foot until the side of your hip is pressed into the front of their hips.
  3. Kick your free leg backward, knee locked, so it meets their near thigh and lifts it off the mat.
  4. Turn your shoulders and pull them over your hip and down to the mat.

Key details

  • Keeping their chest tight to your side means the sweep lifts them instead of just pushing their legs.
  • Turning your shoulders with the sweep is what rolls them over; a leg-only sweep leaves them standing.
