Key steps

  1. Settle at their side with your chest on their upper back and hips low.
  2. Wrap your near arm around their waist or grip their far wrist.
  3. Sprawl your legs back or stay on your toes so your weight drives into them.
  4. Follow their hips as they move so you stay on top of their back.
  5. Work toward a seat belt and hooks, or a front headlock, as they settle.

Key details

  • Stay heavy and close; a gap lets them sit out or roll back to guard.
  • Keep your near knee away from their hands, since a grabbed leg sets up their roll.
