Key steps

  1. Lock a seat belt grip from their side with your chest on their upper back.
  2. Slide your first hook in, heel inside their thigh on the side nearest you.
  3. Roll onto your side, using the seat belt to bring their back down onto your chest.
  4. Insert your second hook as they land on you, heel inside the far thigh.
  5. Tighten the seat belt, pull their back to your chest and settle into back control.

Key details

  • Lock the upper body before you go for hooks, since legs alone can't hold a turtle in place.
  • Roll as one unit with them; if a gap opens between your chest and their back, they turn in.
