Also called Double wristlock from guard

A figure-four shoulder lock from closed guard. The usual opening is a hand they plant on the mat, which you catch as you sit up.

Key steps

  1. Sit up when they post a hand on the mat.
  2. Grab that wrist with your hand on the same side.
  3. Reach your other arm over their shoulder, under their arm, and grip your own wrist.
  4. Fall back and shift your hips out to the side of the trapped arm.
  5. Keep the elbow bent and turn their hand toward their back to finish.

Key details

  • Keep their elbow tight to your chest; a loose arm lets them straighten it.
  • Hook a leg across their lower back so a forward roll isn't available to them.
  • Keep the elbow bent at about a right angle while you turn the hand.
