Hip bump sweep

Also called Sit-up sweep

A closed guard sweep you hit the moment they straighten up. Rising onto one hand, you turn your hip into them and knock them over onto their back.

Key steps

  1. Open your guard as they posture up, and sit up toward them right away.
  2. Base on one hand behind you and send your other arm over their shoulder.
  3. Hug their arm on that side to your body so they can't post it.
  4. Raise your hips high and bump them into their chest so they topple backward.
  5. Follow them over as they fall and settle on top in mount with a wide base.

Key details

  • Sit up fast, because once they push you back down, the sweep is gone.
  • Trap the arm on the side you sweep toward, or they post on it and stay up.
  • If they lean back to stop it, the same sit-up opens the kimura or a guillotine.
