Key steps

  1. Lock your hands around their waist from behind, head tight to their back.
  2. Step your hips close under theirs and keep your chest pressed to their back.
  3. Lift their hips a little or trip their leg to take their feet off the mat.
  4. Turn them to the side as they come down and follow them to the mat.
  5. Land behind them with your chest on their back, then work toward back control.

Key details

  • Lifting with your legs and hips, not your back, keeps you in control of the return.
  • Bringing them down at an angle stops them from posting and standing straight back up.
  • Keeping your head tight to their back stops them from turning to face you.
