Key steps

  1. Stand at their feet and grip their knees or pants, keeping your hips back.
  2. Cross-step one foot over in front of the other and plant it beside their hip.
  3. Push their knee down and away as you step, opening space beside their legs.
  4. Step your back leg around and drop your chest onto them into side control.

Key details

  • Pushing their knee down as you step clears the leg that would block your path.
  • Keeping your hips away until the cross step lands stops them from hooking your legs.
